When the Golden Age of Hollywood is mentioned, people often think of classic black and white films from some of the first studios that were able to make productions with a large budget. The most memorable things about these films were the timeless celebrities that they created through performances that have entertained audiences for decades.

As films began to use sound in the prior decades, many smaller studios could no longer compete and a few major players such as MGM, Warner Brothers, Universal, and Disney emerged to take control of most major releases. This was at least in part because of some of the low-budget, low-quality films that smaller studios had consistently churned out without much regard to lasting appeal and building a long-term audience. Businesses that could not adapt to these changes died off.
